Week Three at Discovery

The teachers opened up the Sand Pit and monitored the Playground at Discovery today....

Essence has discovered if she swings her legs back and forth on the Flying Fox she will make it all the way to the other side.
 Many children followed her example.
 Well done Essence!

Oh no the Flying Fox is stuck in the middle, what are we going to do?

Great idea Reid! He discovered that if he jumped he could tap the handle and push it back to Essence. He didn't get it on his first try but he kept trying and eventually got it there.

Thank you Reid

Awesome swinging to the next hoop. It took many tries to get all the way across. Great perseverance!

Jacob kept trying until he could swing all the way across on the Monkey Bars.
Great perseverance Jaqob! We can see from the look on your face that you are very proud of your achievement today.

Week Ten at Discovery

Today Mrs Holmes read a story about the importance of using our manners at Discovery time. The teachers were very proud of what they heard as we talked to each other. We used words like, 'please', 'thank you' and 'you're welcome'. The teachers hope we continue to use these words at home too.

This week we have been having lots of fun using our fine motor skills to make things. Have a look at what we have done and ask us, at home, how we made them.

These children have been sewing in Room 1 today. Learning to thread a needle, tie knots and sometimes...untying knots. What a great job guys! We wonder what your pockets will be used for.

Brodie has made a hand puppet in Room 2. We love the originality with your design Brodie! We wonder if it's modelled off something or someone.

Max has been making Pom-poms in Room 4. He did a great job explaining how he made them. We wonder what he do with them now...they will make a great gift...Mother's Day is coming up.

Kiranpreet has been busy in Room 1 at the Writing table practising her letters. She is very proud of her accomplishments. Great s's and m Kiranpreet!

Ella enjoyed learning about repeating patterns, during Maths time in Room 1 today, so she used her Discovery time to create her own repeating pattern using the threading beads. Well done Ella!

Please leave a comment on our learning at Discovery this week. We enjoy your feedback.

Discovering the joy of sewing

On Monday, during Discovery, some of the Junior School children tried their hand at sewing.
We discovered different ways to thread the needle-Max said we need to wet the thread to get it through the needle. Well done Max for sharing...it worked.
Korus decided he would tie the thread onto the needle because it kept coming off...well done Korus! It worked because we used material called Hessian and a thick needle. The needle and the knot were able to pass through the Hessian easily.

We used a lot of perseverance to tie the knots.

Jasmeet was proud of the little bag she made.

Jasmeet wants to bring her bag back to Discovery next week to put her handle on. Great sewing Jasmeet...we love your small even stitches.

I wonder how that works?

We were given some old keyboards and telephones. We wondered what was inside them that made them work. We used some screwdrivers to open them up. We found special buttons and a a switchboard. Hunter said the power goes in there and makes it work. We wonder if we can put it back together?

Water and music!

Today at Discovery Time water, jars and forks were put out. We wondered what would happen if you carefully hit the jars with the fork and also what would happen if we had water in the jars. Josh spent some time experimenting and then said "Look everyone, I can play a tune!"
